Union Minister Pralhad Joshi highlighted the importance of affordable, clean electricity access amid rising artificial intelligence adoption. He stated that this necessity will become a strategic imperative for reshaping economies. India has been re-elected as president of the International Solar Alliance, with plans for continued investment and solar deployment.

New Delhi: The growing use of artificial intelligence across economies will make access to affordable, reliable and clean electricity increasingly important, Union renewable energy minister Pralhad Joshi said on Tuesday.

Addressing a press conference on the sidelines of the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit & Expo and the International Solar Alliance Assembly, Joshi said that as AI reshapes economies, access to such electricity would become an even greater strategic imperative.

India was elected president of the International Solar Alliance for a third consecutive term, with France also re-elected as co-president.

Joshi said the alliance would focus on mobilising investments and accelerating solar deployment during India's new term.

Financing solar projects, particularly in developing countries, remains among the alliance's priorities.

The minister cited the $200 million Africa Solar Facility, to which India has committed around $25 million, and the $300 million Nigeria Distributed Renewable Energy Fund.
